3/25/2025 Update

The Robins Nest Water System recently underwent multiple upgrades, which included the following: Full electrical work in the pump house, all new controls for the wells and booster pumps, new piping, and new booster pumps. The work took longer than expected due to unforeseen issues with construction and programming. The pressure has been restored, the new water tower is active, the new equipment is running in manual operations, and coliform sampling continues. The sources (wells) must be cleared before moving to the distribution system (houses). One of the wells is not passing sampling. This well is not active to the system, it is valved off; but due to valve placement and IDEM required location of sampling taps, we cannot guarantee a cross connection to the active well, which is why we cannot move on to the distribution system sampling before getting this well cleared. Sampling must and will continue until coliform absent reports are received. The boil advisory must and will remain active until all samples are absent from coliform. Please get in touch with the water department with any additional questions. 1-219-374-7478. Prompt 8 for Public Works. We do apologize for the delays and understand your concerns. Thank you for your patience.

3/18/2025 Update

Coliform sampling will commence on the Robins Nest water system. The wells (source water) will be tested first. Once the well samples pass, then the distribution system will be tested. The boil advisory will be lifted only once all samples pass. Coliform positive samples will require re-testing, which will delay the boil advisory being lifted.

There are currently no changes or adjusted timelines.

3/14/2025 Update

Pressures are back to normal operating levels. The new equipment is being operated manually until full programming is achieved. Samples to lift the boil advisory will not be drawn until the new equipment is fully functional. A lot of variables exist with this timeline. The best-estimated timeline for drawing samples would be sometime around 3-19-2025. We will post daily updates on weekdays until the boil advisory is lifted. This timeline and course of action were discussed with IDEM, and they concur. Please get in touch with the water department with any questions at 1-219-374-7478 – prompt 8 for Public Works.

3/10/2025 UPDATE

The upgrades to the Robins Nest water system are taking longer than anticipated. The boil advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Lower pressures, fluctuating pressures, discoloration, and “well water” smells are a continued expectation until project completion. (Click here to learn more about what to do for an advisory).

The affected areas include Robins Nest, Lakeside, and Krystal Oaks neighborhoods. Other affected users include Luke’s gas station, Franciscan on 133rd Ave, Faith Church, and MacArthur School.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please call the water department at 1-219-374-7478 and press 8 for Public Works.
