Cedar Lake VIPS
The Cedar Lake VIPS (Volunteers In Police Service) unit provides support and resources to the Cedar Lake Police Department by utilizing citizens who wish to volunteer their time and skills to serve their community. The program’s ultimate goal is to enhance the capacity of the Cedar Lake Police Department by utilizing volunteers to assist with tasks such as:
- Traffic Control
- Business and Residential Patrol
- Community Policing
- Operating the Police Department’s Emergency Shelter Trailer
The VIPS members serve as extra “Eyes and Ears” for the police department and assists the department with its mission of combating criminal activity.
Application Instructions
If interested in becoming a Cedar Lake VIPS Member, click on the link below and complete the application. Once completed please bring to the Cedar Lake Police Department Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm or Saturday 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Participation Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Indiana Driver’s License, have & maintain a satisfactory driving record, no felony convictions, no misdemeanor convictions, possess good reading/writing skills, be a resident of Lake County Indiana and ability to pass a background check. Please reach out to Lt.
