Compensation: This position has a maximum bi-weekly salary of $3,432.69. The rate for this position will be commensurate with education and experience. A comprehensive benefit package that includes health insurance with medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and participation in the Indiana Public Retirement System as well as paid time off and vacation. Job Summary:

The Planning Director is responsible for the daily operations of the Planning and Zoning Department, including administering the Zoning and Subdivision Control Ordinances. This position is responsible for providing direct support to developers, individuals, and town officials in guiding them through planning as well as directing petitions for subdivision plats, zone changes, and variances.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, or closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and practical experience in municipal management with municipal management experience adding up to at least five (5) years of such experience. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification preferred. GIS Professional Certification preferred.

Skills & Knowledge:

Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and codes pertaining to a variety of planning topics
Knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques of the planning profession and development process
Computer applications including Microsoft Office, NearMaps, GIS applications, database management and internet applications
Proven management skills and ability to manage daily operations
Effective leadership comfortable with all levels of staff, appointed and elected officials, public stakeholders, and others
Strong written and oral communication skills, including editing, oversight, and preparation of technical reports, and the presentation of information
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and aerial photographs
Ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive, or controversial situations
Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
Ability to exercise sound and independent judgement within general policy guidelines

MECHANIC

Compensation: This position has a maximum hourly rate of $29.95. The rate for this position will be commensurate with education and experience.

Job Summary:

The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered automotive stock, heavy equipment, and related components. The Mechanic will perform skilled tasks in mechanical repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, tractors, fire fighting equipment, front end load, and other standard and specialized automotive and construction equipment.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

· High school diploma or GED

· Vocational school experience or a combination of experience and training

· Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license, with CDL endorsement or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire

Skills & Knowledge

· Performs repair work on automotives, light and heavy trucks, gasoline and diesel motors, street sweeper, front end loader, generators, and small engine repairs

· Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on vehicles and equipment

· Performs complete mechanical and electrical repairs, inspections, adjusting, repair, or replacement of necessary parts related to cooling, lubrication, fuel, brakes, ignition, and exhaust systems

· Must become familiar with trouble shooting and repairing police and fire/rescue equipment used in Public Safety vehicles including emergency lights, sirens, radars, camera systems and radios

· Maintain all tools and equipment used

· Maintain appearance and safety of mechanic work area by cleaning and organizing tools and equipment

· Ability to work independently, problem solve, complete administrative tasks, as well as possess written and verbal communication skills

· Will assist other departments as directed

Job Summary: The Town of Cedar Lake Fire Department serves and protects over 14,000 citizens within a rapidly growing community. Department members are trained to respond to events involving hazardous materials, water rescue, as well as structural incidents. The department provides emergency medical and fire response, plan reviews, building inspections, public education, community outreach, and much more.

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Soccer Referee will be responsible for following and enforcing league rules as they pertain to the different age levels of soccer.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or G.E.D.
2. Grassroots Referee Certification preferred but not required
3. Working knowledge of the rules of the game from either previous refereeing or playing experience
4. Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, phone and in person with Recreation Coordinator as well as a diverse group of people participating at various ages
5. Knowledge of and ability to enforce and explain the rules of the game

This position requires an employee to be on their feet for a majority of their shift in different types of weather. During that time, the employee will experience different levels of exertion depending on the age level they are officiating. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.

Police Department – Probationary Patrolman

Cedar Lake Police Department is accepting applications for Patrolman. This is an open application process for Certified Officers and non-Certified individuals. Cedar Lake Police Department is a competitive, progressive Department experiencing major growth in the community. CLPD will be accepting applications to develop a candidate list for the next year. Cedar Lake is expecting to hire two Officers in the next few months along with potentially more in the future.
