Compensation:          This position has a maximum salary of $89,249.94. The salary for this position will be commensurate with education and experience. A comprehensive benefit package that includes health insurance with medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, and participation in the Indiana Public Retirement System 1977 Police Officers’ & Firefighters’ Retirement Fund as well as personal, vacation, and sick leave.                 The Town of Cedar Lake is a vibrant and growing community that 14,215 residents call home. An 800-acre lake is at the center of town. Operating under a Council/Manager form of government, the Town of Cedar Lake values the Chief of Police as a crucial member of the executive management team. The Chief of Police is responsible for the strategic planning, directing, and leading activities and functions of the Town of Cedar Lake Metropolitan Police Department.

                The Police Department provides services twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week. There are currently thirty Police Department employees, including twenty-four sworn full-time officers and two unpaid reserve officers. The Chief of Police is a “working Chief.” The Chief of Police is hired by and reports directly to the Town Council. The Department has a current operating budget of approximately $2,690,000.

Preferred Qualifications:

                Candidates for the position are preferred to have seven to ten years of continuous full-time, active experience in law enforcement, with five years of strong command or supervisory level law enforcement or military experience. The Town seeks a Chief of Police that communicates well with uniformed officers and citizens alike, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and concepts. Other requirements include: strong commitment to community policing, excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; the ability to relate to elected officials, Town staff, citizens, and other law enforcement officials; thorough knowledge of federal, state, and municipal code related to law enforcement. The Chief of Police must be experienced in addressing internal organizational and personnel issues present in most police agencies as well as have demonstrated ability in addressing those issues in a positive, professional, timely and impartial manner.

                The candidate ultimately selected as Chief of Police will have a proven track record and career history that demonstrates employee development and training, effective fiscal oversight, training and certification, strong organizational and administrative skills.

                A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Indiana Academy Certification is required and advanced law enforcement management training, is a plus.

                Residency in the State of Indiana and within thirty miles of Town is required within one year of hiring.

Crew Worker- Water Utility

Compensation:           This position is entry-level with a starting hourly rate of $18.00.

Job Summary:

The Water Utility Crew Worker is responsible for performing daily duties including but not limit to daily testing, meter reading, customer inquiries, as well as routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, including pumps, valves, and chemical feed systems. Responsibilities include monitoring water treatment processes to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license, with CDL endorsement or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of water treatment components
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply policies and procedures
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in the water treatment process
  • Ability to perform, analyze, and interpret laboratory tests
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with people at all levels
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

Job Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, the Soccer Referee will be responsible for following and enforcing league rules as they pertain to the different age levels of soccer.

2. Grassroots Referee Certification preferred but not required
3. Working knowledge of the rules of the game from either previous refereeing or playing experience
4. Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, phone and in person with Recreation Coordinator as well as a diverse group of people participating at various ages
5. Knowledge of and ability to enforce and explain the rules of the game

This position requires an employee to be on their feet for a majority of their shift in different types of weather. During that time, the employee will experience different levels of exertion depending on the age level they are officiating. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds.

Cedar Lake Police Department is accepting applications for Patrolman. This is an open application process for Certified Officers and non-Certified individuals. Cedar Lake Police Department is a competitive, progressive Department experiencing major growth in the community. CLPD will be accepting applications to develop a candidate list for the next year.
